Mastering the Art of Puttering
I have recently mastered the art of puttering.
I was on the phone with my mom one day and I was explaining my attempt to organize my life, and was sorting through piles and moving them from one room to the next. By the end of the day the same piles of stuff (laundry, mail, magazines, expenses... even recipes) existed, just in different rooms. She replied, "Ah! You are puttering". I had heard the term before, but never understand what it truly meant... until now.
To putter: occupy oneself in a desultory but pleasant manner, doing a number of small tasks or not concentrating on anything particular. Sadly I have mastered the art of puttering.
My business has taken off, I'm about to get featured next month on one of my favorite wedding blogs, and I just finished redesigning my blog. And now I keep asking myself, what's next? There are so many things to do, and I just don't know where to start... therefore I putter. I need to clear my head, go back to my goals, and focus on the actions that will get me results to further my business, my skills, and my relationships.
